Let’s start today’s article by bringing beautiful awareness💖

1. Understand How It Is Designed

The first step to reduce or stop touching your phone is to understand how your phone and social media are designed to grab your attention, no matter what.

Have you checked your screen time lately? How long is it and what does it say to you? I used to spend 2-3 hours a day on my phone, but guess what my friend, it’s less than 5 minutes now!

Almost a decade ago we didn’t even have a phone, but now if you look around 99% of people are using it whether it’s in a cafe, restaurant, or transportation even in front of loved ones and I think it’s a bit sad in this age if we don’t bring awareness.

The phone and social media are filled with a lot of notifications and stimulation with images and sounds, so the first step is to realize that if you’re having a hard time staying away from your phone, it’s actually because of how it’s designed.

Once you know this, you will be able to use your phone more intentionally and elegantly.

2. Recognize How it Affects Your Beauty, Health and Wellness

The second step to reduce or stop touching your phone is to recognize how it affects your beauty and elegance in the long term.

Every time we touch our phone, we tend to look down and look less elegant because of our posture and we are not in the present moment.

If we are not mindful, it also will affect our eyes, neck, shoulder, or back pain.

Also, because our bodies and emotions are deeply connected, when we look down, we often feel more tired and negative.

Especially, when it’s passive information something like you are not looking for it but suddenly pops up, and after a few days, you actually forget what the information was for, can you relate?

YouTube can be great for learning by taking notes, and Pinterest can be lovely if you are proactively looking for certain beautiful images but Instagram or TikTok, which I have never used, in my opinion, is more like too many distractions and passive information with not that beautiful images or sounds.

What we want to see is more loving, uplifting, and beautiful images and sounds, and most of the ads are not that attractive image and often affect your well-being as well.

In order to live the best life, let’s be very selective about what we bring into our minds.

3. Value Your Precious Time & Energy

The third step to reduce or stop touching your phone is to remember your greatest asset.

In this life, we often forget, but our time and energy are the two most precious, greatest assets in your life.

Every moment spent on your phone is time that could be taken away from your dreams and the experiences you could be savoring.

Of course, the internet is great because we can connect with each other instantly all over the world, but in real life, I sometimes miss the time when we didn’t even have a phone and we could talk and connect heart to heart.

The true richness of life comes from real experiences, not from watching other’s lives. Let’s cherish our time and energy and make the most of it gracefully.

Now, let’s move on to practical steps💖

4. Define Your Crystal Clear Outcome

The fourth step to reduce or stop touching your phone is to define what you are exactly looking for.

This step is about practicing being intentional with your time. When you’re clear about what you want, it’s easier to manage distractions.

Before you open an app or search online, you can always ask yourself What am I truly looking for? And will those contents serve me and help me to achieve my dreams?

By defining your outcome, and the specific information you are looking for, you will be able to focus on what is most important in your life.

5. Turn Off Notifications and Delete Apps

The fifth step to reduce or stop touching your phone is to turn off notifications, delete apps, and even practice turning off your phone.

Since you already learned that our phone is designed to grab your attention no matter what, you can start by turning off notifications and deleting the app to stop getting distracted.

Years ago I was also seeing Instagram then I realized that it was not useful or helpful for my true dreams and being the best version of myself.

At first, it took a few times to delete and re-download the apps but after the practice, now I only turn on my phone when I need to and I promise you, it is life-changing!

6. Be Your Own Best Friend

The final step to reduce or stop touching your phone is to always love yourself at the best.

As a human being, you might want to touch your phone just because you are feeling some kind of discomfort, just like overeating.

So whenever you feel the temptation to reach for your phone and open an app, you can always ask yourself.

What do I actually need and want right now? Why do I need this stimulation? Is there anything I am postponing that I need to do for my dreams and feel uncomfortable about?

If I use this precious time to look at other people’s lives, what is costing me or holding me back? What do I want and need to do instead of this quick entertaining dopamine hit as my long-term investment for my vision and dreams?

This is about true self-love. Always be your own best friend and guide yourself toward meaningful activities rather than seeking temporary dopamine hits.

First, you may feel uncomfortable but over time, you feel more uncomfortable to watch others instead of your dreams.

Bonus. Design Your Dream Life

List up everything you want to design, create, and experience!

Instead of looking at the phone and watching other people eat, do, or anything else, what would you love to do in your life? Let’s focus and make a list of all the things you’d like to do, create, or experience in your own life.

Even some small actions will help who you are becoming. When you are feeling like you want to touch your phone, You can always stop and take a deep breath, and you can even smell the beautiful roses. Life is so precious.

Once you have the list, when you’re tempted to pick up the phone, grab this guide and do what’s on the list.
