How to Know if Fruits Are Perfectly Ripe, Juicy & Sweet!

Hello, my gorgeous friend! 💖
Today, I’m going to share the secret to eating the most delicious, perfectly ripe fruits! 🍌🍎
This is what I learned from being a raw vegan for one and a half years — and it’s been super fun and so helpful!

Some people don’t love certain fruits, but honestly… maybe they’ve just never had them perfectly ripe.
After this article, you’ll know exactly when to eat your fruits so you can enjoy them at their absolute best — and it’s super easy!

🍑 The secret to perfect fruits is really simple — only two things to master!

1. Smell — if it has a sweet, fruity aroma, it’s ready to eat.
2. Softness — gently press it; if it feels a little soft, it’s ready!

There are two types of fruits:
🌿 fruits that ripen after harvesting
🌿 and fruits that do not ripen after harvesting.

Let’s start with the ones that ripen after harvesting — and I’ll show you with examples.

🍌 Banana

Bananas are the most fun and easiest fruit to check! 😆
When you master bananas, you can master any fruit.

Do you eat them right after buying them at the store when they’re yellow?
That’s not the best time yet!

If you just bought them, wait until they become soft and get little brown spots — like in this photo.
They peel so easily without that squeaky sound — that’s the key!
To ripen bananas (or any fruit) faster, keep them in a warm spot or place them near other fruits.

When they’re ready, they become so creamy, sweet, and heavenly!

🍎 Apple

For apples, the scent is the key.
When an apple smells fruity and sweet, that’s when it’s ready to eat.

🍐 Pear

Pears change color from green to a softer yellow as they ripen.
If it smells lovely and feels slightly soft when you gently press it, it’s the perfect time to eat!

🍑 Peach & Plum

These are my absolute favorite fruits — so juicy and delicious.
The key is both scent and softness.
If they smell amazing, and when you gently press them they feel soft, that’s when they’re at their very best!

🥑 Avocado

Avocados don’t really smell, so softness is the key.
Gently press it — if it feels soft, it’s perfectly creamy and delicious! 🥑

Next: fruits that do not ripen after picking

These fruits are mostly checked by color (and a little bit of scent).

🍓 Strawberry & Blueberry

Have you ever gone strawberry or blueberry picking? 🍓
It’s one of the best and most fun raw vegan activities!

Strawberries:
If they’re bright red and smell sweet, they’re ready!

Blueberries:
If they come off the plant easily without force, that’s a great sign.
The best ones are dark in color, and sometimes they have a white powder called bloom — that means they taste amazing.

🍉 Watermelon

If it feels heavy for its size, that’s a great sign it’s juicy.
Check the pattern — if it’s bright and clear, it’s usually a good one.
And when you tap it and it sounds hollow, it’s perfectly ready!

🍇 Grapes

They should look plump, the color should be vibrant, and they often have bloom.
If they smell sweet and look juicy, they’re always so yummy!

So, gorgeous friend,
smell, softness, and sometimes color are the keys to perfectly ripe, scrumptious fruits every time! 💖
