Today’s topic is all about how to stop overeating. Have you ever experienced that especially you are working with your computer, you somehow start to feel hungry? After you had something, feeling tired or having skin issues afterward?
You are not alone, my friend. After watching today’s video, you can stop overeating as well as master elegant eating. With that said, let’s get started.
1. Have an Awareness of Your Sensations
The first step to stopping overeating is to be aware of your sensations. It is always great to listen to your body.
When you feel like reaching for some food even though you had enough breakfast, lunch, or dinner, it is the perfect time to stop and feel your body. How are you actually feeling physically? On a scale of 0 to 10, how are you feeling? Are you truly feeling hungry? Once you understand your physical sensations, let’s move on to the next step.
2. Identify Where the Hunger Comes From
The second step is identify where your hunger is coming from. Maybe you are actually feeling hungry if you didn’t eat enough breakfast, lunch, or dinner. But you need to know that most of the hunger, especially after you have already had meals, often comes from discomfort.
In a previous video on How to Stop Eating Sugar, which I highly recommend watching because it helps eliminate any food you don’t want to eat for your body, I mentioned that we tend to grab something to eat because we do not want to feel negative emotions. Maybe you want to avoid feeling overwhelmed, pressured, stressed, worried or discomfort.
When you eat something, it provides a little dopamine hit and temporary comfort so that you can avoid feeling those negative feelings, which can lead to overeating.
When you realize you are emotionally eating, again, it is the perfect time to stop and ask yourself: What am I feeling right now? What kind of emotion am I feeling? What am I thinking right now?
The great news is that every emotion you feel is created by your own thoughts, and the feeling is just a vibration in your body. So, it’s perfect time to check in with yourself and understand how you are actually feeling.
Once you identify any emotion that you don’t want to feel, increase your awareness level, and let’s move on to Step 3.
3. Heal the core of the emotion
Now, you identified the emotion that you are avoiding. In this moment, you can write down deeply what kind of thoughts you are having. Since overeating doesn’t help you in the long term, let’s practice that habit of asking yourself what you need and what you want in this moment right now.
Instead of focusing on reaching extra food to stay away from discomfort, you can always change your focus and take time for journaling or self-love and care.
Maybe you need a long walk, workout, a little bit of a nap, or play with animals to release stress. Exercise often changes your energy, your emotional state, and motivation.

4. Master Mindful Eating
This is the most fun and important step, especially if you want to be an elegant lady! Whenever you’re enjoying a beautiful breakfast, lunch, or dinner, I would like to ask you one question. Are you focusing on only using the five senses? Here is what I mean,
Are you eating without touching any phone, PC, or digital devices?
At this age, it is so easy to grab a phone however, when you eat, you only want to focus on eating. If you develop the habit of unconsciously reaching for your phone, it’s easy to not feel enough or full after eating which might lead to overeating later.
Personally, I don’t drink coffee, but I love visiting beautiful vegan cafes (Check out beautiful cafes in Paris, London and Jeju Island) around the world and I’ve noticed that many people, even when dining with friends or loved ones, they are not fully present and tend to eat while using their phones or PCs.
Firstly, using a phone or PC while eating doesn’t look elegant at all especially the posture and secondly, it’s important to cultivate a beautiful connection with yourself, your food, and your loved ones during meals.
So, when you are having any meals, even you are alone, play some beautiful music, set a beautiful table, and take your time, enjoy and truly savor the meal. What does it look like? What is the taste like? What is the smell like? how the beautiful meal is helping you to nourish yourself?
When you take time and slow down, you will be able to stop overeating because when you focus on only eating, you will be able to feel full and after you have the meal, you will be very excited for the next meal because you can enjoy the time of the meal fully.
Eating is a great opportunity to connect with your food and yourself. And of course, when dining with friends or loved ones, put away all digital devices and TVs and have deep, fun conversations. We never want to take this beautiful and precious time for granted.
Practical tip: You can always brush your teeth after each or every meal.

5. Develop Discipline with Your Body and Mealtime
At this age, it is said that most people get sick because they eat too much. Especially we are trained to eat at certain times such as 7 am is breakfast, noon is lunch, 6 pm is dinner time, and in between is snack time or something like that. Because this is how we are taught especially from the school system.
But our bodies are completely different. Some people, like me, love to eat massively at breakfast to energize and start the day, while some people prefer eating more for lunch or dinner.
It’s important to listen to your body and adjust your eating habits accordingly. This flexibility helps you align with your body’s hunger signals.
And always master Step 4 —once you truly enjoy the time of the meal, you will be able to stop overeating because now you are practicing developing the mindset of overeating which is painful, but enjoying and savoring each beautiful meal is truly pleasurable.
Bonus. Do not buy snacks
You might grab a snack just because it’s already in the house. So the bonus step is to avoid buying anything that doesn’t serve your health. For example, most cookies or savory snacks you see in the supermarket are full of sugar, wheat, and other chemicals. They are designed to be addictive.
In case you don’t know how to read the label, here’s how: Ingredients are listed in order of quantity, from highest to lowest. If sugar is listed first, the product is full of sugar. Let’s look at two examples from vegan cookies that I randomly picked from Amazon.
Example 1:
- Gluten-Free Flour (Brown Rice Flour, Potato Starch, Tapioca Flour)
- Palm Oil Shortening
- Rainbow Sprinkles (Sugar, Palm Kernel and Palm Oil, Corn Starch, Vegetable Juice [Beet Juice, Blueberry], Sunflower Lecithin, Annatto Extract, Spirulina Extract, Turmeric, Beta-Carotene, Paprika Oleoresin, Maltodextrin, Carnauba Wax, Cellulose Gum)
- Cane Sugar
- Brown Sugar
- Water
- Fructose
- Brown Rice Syrup
- Egg Replacer (Potato Starch, Tapioca Flour, Leavening [Calcium Lactate, Calcium Carbonate, Cream of Tartar], Cellulose Gum, Modified Cellulose)
- Rice Dextrin
- Grape Juice
- Prebiotic Tapioca Fiber
- Vanilla Extract
- Baking Soda
- Salt
- Xanthan Gum
- Sunflower Lecithin
If you ever watched my video on 7 things to Avoid for Clear Skin, you would know it contains a lot of ingredients that are not healthy, such as grains, sugar, and palm oil.
Example 2:
- Cane Sugar
- Unbleached Wheat Flour
- Palm Oil
- Safflower Oil
- Cocoa Powder (Processed with Alkali)
- Brown Rice Syrup
- Baking Soda
- Soy Lecithin
- Ammonium Bicarbonate
- Natural Flavor
This one seems better than the first one because it less ingredients but still, sugar is listed first, so it means it is full of sugar and it is very addictive so that once you have it, it is easy to overeat. And again, see the ingredients that I don’t even know how to pronounce!
We always want to avoid buying snacks just because the package looks cute or healthy.
Always check the label, and if they have ingredients you don’t even know, please stay away. You can understand that even if it says ‘vegan’, ‘gluten-free’ or ‘organic’ in the package, it might not be good for your body and skin.
So you can always stop buying snacks that don’t serve you because you deserve the best. You can always replace them with beautiful whole fruits or veggies that don’t need any label, such as bananas and apples.
Fruits such as bananas, apples, and oranges are great snacks to replace because once you eat enough, you feel truly satisfied physically.
